Mak Mourns Death of Their Engineering Student “Emmanuel Wamono” Who Drowned At MP Nandala’s Malukhu Based Mountain Inn Hotel

Makerere University has confirmed the death of one of its finalist at Budadiri Wes MP Nathan Nandala’s Mountain Inn Hotel in Mbale.

Emmanuel Wamono, a 3rd year electrical engineering student, a resident of Livingstone Hall, died by drowning in the said hotel which is located opposite Cure Medical Centre on Majanga Road.

“The deceased drowned while trying to save a child in a swimming pool in Mbale,”

Winifred Kabumbuli Dean of Students of Makerere University said in a statement seen by this Website.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” she added.

Kabumbuli’s statement however contradicts with the one of the eyewitness who said that the hotel management left the deceased to die helplessly.

“When he fell in the swimming pool, his cousin rushed to the pool attendant and informed him that Emma was in the pool and had failed to come out, but he just ignored saying that he might have gone to see his girlfriend later the search was conducted and they found his clothes then later his lifeless body,” said one of the relatives on the Audio obtained by this Website.

Wamono travelled  to Mbale for a 2 weeks holiday on February 4.

Upon reaching Mbale, the deceased together with his cousins decided to go for swimming. 

“It is said that the cousins decided to go have a drink as Emma opted to enter the swimming pool,” Freeman News Website reported. 

Kabumbuli in light of this tragedy, reminded all students of their availabile counselling and support services to any student who needs them.

“Our staff is here to help you navigate your feelings and provide the support you need during this difficult time,” she said.

Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe the Makerere University Vice Chancellor’s Tribute towards Wamono’s untimely Death

Wamono, according to the statement will be buried in Bunambutye village, Mbale District on Monday.

“The University will be represented by some members of our community. Please keep Emmanuel and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this time. 

Sincerely,” said Kabumbuli.

Both Police and Hotel management was tight lipped by press time.
