Breaking; UDA’s William Ruto, Trounces Uhuru Backed Raila Odinga to Win Kenya’s Presidency

William Ruto of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Kenya Kwanza Political Coalition has won the 2022 Kenya Presidency elections becoming the 5th President-elect of the republic of Kenya.

Ruto was declared the winner on Monday afternoon by Wafula Chebukati the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in Bomas of Nairobi after defeating Raila Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja Coalition, in highly contested polls that were held on August 9.

Other candidates were; Pro-marijuana Prof. George Wajackoyah of the Roots Party and David Mwaure of the Agano party, who conceded defeat on Sunday.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati made the announcement at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday, August 15, 2022, at 6:03 PM.

He said Mr. Ruto had fulfilled the constitutional requirements after garnering 7,176,141 votes, representing 50.49 percent of the total votes cast and he achieved the minimum number of 39 counties at 25%

.“In accordance with the Constitution and the law, chairperson of IEBC hereby declare that Ruto William Samoei has been duly elected as the President of the Republic of Kenya under the provision of Article 138 of the Constitution of the Presidential election held on August 9, 2022,” said he said.

13.4 million voters participated in the polls out of the 22 million voters registered

The 2022 Presidential election which saw a major competition between Odinga and Ruto was held on August 9th in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

By Monday 15, the Azimio coalition was leading in the National Assembly by three positions while the Kenya Kwanza was leading in the Senate by one representative.

The neck-and-neck competition between the two coalitions has seen both getting 21 county Governors at the moment although the 2 including that of Mombasa and have not been declared due to the suspension of the process.

Kenyatta backed Odinga after failing out with Ruto who was his presidential running mate in the 2017 election.

Stakeholders including IEBC, Observers, and Candidates themselves described the election as being peaceful
