President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated members of the August house for being persistent with the National prayer breakfast event which he said dates way back to the 1990s.
“I congratulate the Prayer Breakfast Movement, in Uganda, it has persisted since I was invited to the US to attend similar prayers for the first time in the 90s” Museveni highlighted.
Museveni made these remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast that he hosted at Entebbe Statehouse on Saturday.
This event which takes place annually on the eve of Uganda’s Independence Day celebrations is aimed at praying for the country, economy, and families as well as thanking God for his protection, guidance, and providence to Ugandans.
The fountain of honor also commended the guest speaker for pointing out the realities in life when he referred to the biblical parable of the talents that should be utilized to the maximum.
“If you are not using the talents God has given to you then you are letting down what God told you to do to establish dominion over nature,” he noted.
In his keynote address, Professor Christiaan Alting from Austria congratulated President Museveni for standing strong on the world stage and also emphasized the need to instill virtues of education and leadership in the youth.
“If we want to restore our nations, we need to begin by installing virtues to the youth,” he added.
Bishop JB Masinde who was the Guest Speaker urged Christians in Uganda to forget the past and only use it for shaping and focusing on the future.
The man of God called upon the government to invest in the youth, saying that they have the potential to transform this country.
In her speech read by Rt.Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, the Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among thanked the congregation for turning up for prayers and noted that like family, a nation that prays together stays united.
In her closing prayer, First Lady Janet Museveni thanked God for guiding, protecting, and providing for the people of Uganda as they celebrate the 60th Independence Anniversary.
The National Prayer Breakfast was attended by the Vice President H. E Jessica Alupo, the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, Justice Minister Norbert Mao, and Members of Parliament among others.
