Xenia Huegel and Sounds of Hope Ministries International have been crowned as the best Education Champion in the 2025 African Humanitarian Awards.
The ministry was awarded during the gala dinner which took place on January 26, in Nigeria’s city of Lagos.
The gala attracted various high-level dignitaries including the three First Ladies including Dominique Outtara of Ivory Coast, Oluremi Tinubu of Nigeria, and Lordina Mahama of Ghana.
A book titled: the Story of Africa’s Compassionate Stride, containing a list of all winners and nominees will be published, and will be present in all 54 state libraries in Africa.

Xenia Huegel and Sounds of Hope Ministries International which won the African Humanitarian Award, Education Champion has since 2018 been active in Uganda and Gambia. There have been gentle beginnings in Namibia and Kenya since 2016.
“Thanks to Huegel’s efforts, the “Sounds of Hope Ministries International” initiative has so far implemented the following projects. A children’s house, a school (all in Uganda), a hospital (Jattaba, Gambia, on the border with Senegal), and five wells (in Uganda and Gambia) were built. In addition, a training center (Uganda) for women was built and set up,” the ministry said in a statement.
It added, “This was followed by two awards for the work of women in Uganda. Huegel received prominent support from Kollegah, Hana Nitsche, Akay, Paul Flynn, and Dieter Hallervorden, as well as from Russell Simmons, Ivan Byekwaso, Fantaceewiz, Franca Morgano, Mariele Millowitsch, and from Xenia Princess of Saxony. Currently, 500 children are cared for every month in three schools in Uganda and Gambia. A school has been under construction in Gunjur, Gambia since September 2024. The countries Nigeria, Ghana, and Angola will be added in 2025,”
In the fall of 2024, Xenia Huegel founded “ChampKidz”. As a freelance educator and children’s coach, there she offers coaching, modules, and projects in daycare centers and primary schools that are thematically based on the 17 sustainability goals and the six levels of resilience.
