World over, Art has proved to have the power to influence society. Songs have influenced the change of governments in many countries, broken barriers, and United People All-over the world.
As the world is struggling to triumph against Stigma, a silent killer among the people living positively, Young People from the Slums of Namuwongo have taken up the fight through ‘better together, a short movie, to fight the baseless myths and misconceptions surrounding HIV virus and AIDS disease.
The short movie is inspired by stories from some of the female contestants of the Miss and Mr. Y+ central region.
Miss Bayan Nalubwama, the movie’s story and screenplay writer who also happens to be a Journalist said that during one of her media engagements at Uganda Network of Young People Living With HIV& AIDS(UNYPA) headquarters, she observed that most of the contestants wanted the title to use the platform against Stigma.
“Based on their touching stories, I realized that we all need to provide a healthy environment for them and so, I joined the fight through this touching creation.“
The movie stars Monica Achieng, Vivian Mutoni, and Suzan Komukama in the lead roles. The film revolves around Vivian’s character Sabrina, who despises and stigmatizes Monica, Amina because she was born with the HIV virus.
Amina’s guardian Suzan, talks to the village chairperson and they agree on a sensitization campaign within the village, Sensitization is done and people are urged to check their statuses, through the excise, Sabrina finds out she is a victim too.
The film is directed by Lubanjuma, shot from the Slums of Namuwongo, and produced by Touch The Slum.
