A section of District Chairpersons of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has vowed to put president Museveni in NRM prison, should he snub contesting in the 2026/31 presidential race.
President Museveni defeated Robert Kyagulanyi to win the 2021 presidential race.
His son and the senior presidential advisor on security Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has however on several occasions vowed to become Uganda’s next president come 2026.
The NRM District Chairpersons joined the rest of the previous members and endorsed President Yoweri Museveni for the 2026/31 term as president.
Those who met at Kati Kati Restaurant in Kampala on Monday said that there is no one who has a clear vision of Uganda more than president Museveni.
“For us as the NRM District Chairpersons, we want to inform the country that we are endorsing president Museveni as our candidate for the 2026 presidential race and beyond,” Eng. Hajji Twaha Kiganda Sonko the Kalungu District NRM Chairperson who doubles as the Forum’s Chairperson said
“You should not be lied that there is any other candidate, for this position, President is the only one we know and shall support in the bid for the presidency,” he added.
The endorsement come at a time when a section of other NRM Chapters across the country have endorsed Museveni, with the recent being Busenyi Youth.

Kiganda told reporters that they are optimistic about supporting Museveni who has been in power since1986.
Speaking to reporters at the same conference, Chemaswet Kisos, the MP of Soi County and the NRM District Chairperson of Kween District said that they only know president Museveni for the next term.
“We shall not forgive president Museveni if he doesn’t Contest, in fact, we shall arrest him and detain him in NRM prison,” he added.
Kisos accused popular veteran Journalist Andrew Mwenda whom he said has confused the party.
“He is fronting people who are not on our NRM structures, for us we know president Museveni,” he said
DaParrot understands that Gen. Muhoozi has built an army of youth on Twitter who have endorsed him on several occasions.
“As NRM, we respect Gen. Muhoozi as a serving army officer, we are discussing matters of presidency now, and if his issues are raised before us, we shall do so,” Kiganda said,
The NRM District Chairpersons seat on the National Executive Committee, which always approves recommendations that are suggested by the Central Executive Committee,” he added
President Museveni’s endorsements have on several occasions been denied by the NRM party Secretariat, which says as of now they are implementing the 2021/25 NRM Manifesto.
