‘We Don’t Run the Country on Social Media’ Gov’t Speaks Out on Gen. Muhoozi’s Nairobi Capture Tweets

Government has through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs distanced itself from having intentions of capturing Kenya’s Capital Nairobi.

Newly promoted Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Monday evening said tweeted that he as his army can capture Nairobi in less than two weeks.

He followed this with numerous tweets, which angered Kenyans creating a social media debate with Uganda.

The war dragged in Kenyan top officials including Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei who tweeted on Tuesday morning that he expect by morning the ministry of foreign affairs to summon Ugandan ambassador to shed light on Gen. Muhoozi social media outbursts & subsequent apology.

“This is undermining the spirit of unity of EAC,” he said.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the government and the people of the Republic of Uganda treasure the existing strong bilateral relations between the people and the government of the Republic of Kenya, “based on our shared history, common values, mutual respect, trust and the desire to build a unified East African Community,”

“To this end, the government wishes to reiterate its commitment to good neighbourliness, peaceful co-existence and cooperation,” reads part of the statement,

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to clarify that the Government of the Republic of Uganda does not conduct its Foreign Policy and other official business through social media nor does it depend on social media sources in dealing with other sovereign Governments,” it added.

MFA said that it wishes to reiterate its cordial relationship with the Republic of Kenya and assure the people and the Government of the Republic of Kenya of our harmonious relationship that we value.

Lt. Gen. Muhoozi was on Tuesday afternoon promoted to the rank of full General, by his father who double as the president and Commander of the Armed Forces.
