Ugandan Radio Stations Banned from Freely Broadcasting Premier League Games

All Ugandan Radio stations have been effective August 29, banned from Broadcasting and making commentry on all English Premier League Games.

This was after Discovery Sports Ltd (DSL) got all the rights to do so In a public notice seen by this Website DSL said has been exclusively licensed to broadcast all English Premier League (EPL) Games in Uganda via radio.

“DSL has also been licensed to hold/use the EPL logo, the EPL anthem, club names, and logos. This development has been brought to the attention of the Uganda Communications Commission and the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board,” reads part of the Notice.

“With effect from 29th/08/2022, all Radio stations, with the exception of BBC Radio, broadcasting the EPL games, and Gaming or Betting Houses that display the EPL logo, club names, and logos are hereby directed to stop such broadcasts or use unless they have been sub-licensed by DSL,” it adds.

The Public Notice to all Radio Stations and Betting Companies

According to the Notice, any further live Radio broadcasts of the EPL games in Uganda or use of the above described intellectual property without a sub-license from DSL will constitute a violation of DSL’s broadcast and intellectual property rights by such Radio Stations, gaming/betting houses their sponsors, and individual broadcasters or users.

“Radio Stations or Gaming/betting Houses that wish to be sublicensed by DSL should contact DSL,” it notes
