Two individuals have tragically lost their lives after a severe downpour struck Masibwe Village, Buhumba Parish, Katebwa Sub-County, in Bunyangabu District.

The heavy rainfall, which occurred on March 12, caused extensive flooding, with debris sweeping through the area, damaging homes and claiming the lives of Muhindo Joat, 30 months old, and Mumbere Jamil, aged 5. The flooding also resulted in significant property damage.

“The team on the ground is conducting rapid assessments, providing psychosocial support to affected families, and issuing warnings to those in vulnerable areas,” Nakasiita stated.

She further added that the Uganda Red Cross Society, in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Committee, is preparing a detailed report to be submitted to the Office of the Prime Minister.

Bunyangabu, located in the Rwenzori region, has historically been prone to natural disasters. Last year, the area experienced similar flooding, which impacted approximately 500 households.
