Three people reportedly died on the Saturday after the fire that glutted the Hima plant in Kasese, authorities have confirmed.
Jean-Michel Pons, the Hima Country CEO said in a statement on Saturday that eight other employees were injured with one in critical condition.
“Our deepest sympathies are with their families and friends of the deceased. We hope for a positive outcome and we are doing everything within our means to ensure that they get proper medical care and a quick recovery,” he said in a statement,
“The Hima Cement fire responders with the support of Uganda Police Fire Brigade and the UPDF team, we’re able to bring the fire under control in under one hour and we are working with all relevant authorities to ensure that the root cause of the incident is identified,” he added,
According to Pons, the fire broke out when a team was doing installation works at the Light Diesel Oil Tank.
“Our team is working with the authorities to further investigate the incident and to ascertain the course of events. We shall share more information in due course,” he said
He said that the operations at the Hima Plant have been stopped as “we take stock of this incident and to ensure that the fire is fully contained,”
“The Health and Safety of our employees and all stakeholders remains our number one priority. Again, our deepest sympathies to the families of our colleagues that passed on and that were Injured,” he said.
