The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has distanced itself from the newly launched pressure group of former FDC Party President Dr. Kizza Besigye’s People’s Front for Transition (PFT).

During the launch of PFT last week, a section of political actors purportedly from UPC swore allegiance to Besigye and promised maximum support.

These among others included Peter Walubiri, a UPC party defector who has since created his own clique.

While addressing journalists at the party headquarters on Wednesday this week, Sharon Oyat Arach, the Party Spokesperson asked Dr. Besigye to apologize to the party, for undermining its leadership.

Last week, there were various media reports that Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) was part of the forces that launched the pressure group of People’s Front for Transition (PFT),” she said adding,

We want to firmly make it clear, that the UPC is not part of this group and neither have we ever received any communications or invitation to join PFT. Whoever purportedly attended on behalf of UPC is a masquerader, impostor, and their actions, therefore, do not represent the position of UPC,”

UPC joined parties like the Democratic Party which also distanced themselves from the members who attended the launch on their behalf.
