Management Orders Partial Lockdown of Prisons Headquarters

The top management of Uganda Prisons has with immediate effect ordered for a partial lockdown of all prison headquarters due to the increasing cases of Covid-19 infections.

In an internal memo that was shared by the management on Tuesday, December 28, and seen by DaParrot, the management noted that there has been an increasing trend of Covid-19 cases especially in the Kampala Metropolitan

According to the memo, in Luzira Barracks alone, the prison had already registered a positivity rate of 77% which was a worrying state.

Adding that the 70% of the workforce would be facilitated to work from home. The memo also noted that the 30% of staff at the workplace will have to be monitored by the head of the department to ensure that they strictly observe the ministry of health Covid-19 guidelines as they also cater for their welfare.

In relation to the visitors, the memo directed that they be restricted as much as possible and that security has been instructed to be allowed only after the Heads of Department.

It also directed that CP/GAWS and CP/EE (NSSF Wing ), enforce compliance, CP/ICT enhance ICT-Systems to enable officers to continue work as advised by MoPS and that the Covid-19 Taskforce remains in full force to provide the needed guidance and essential services and supplies.
