Lands Ministry Warns District Land Boards on Issuing Titles Forest Reserves, Wetlands to Applicants

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development (MLHUD) has warned all leaders at the District Land Board to desist from Allocating land that is found in the central forest reserves, buffer zones, and protected wetlands to Applicants.

Bake Mugaino, the Commissioner of Land Registration at the ministry in a public notice seen by DaParrot said that they have noticed that these district officials in the course of doing their work of allocating land to applicants in their respective districts have allocated land in the Forest Reserves, Wetlands, Rivers and Lake Buffer Zones, on Government land or on land which is already titled leading to double titling.

As a result of your actions, the office has been overwhelmed with applications for cancellation of certificates of title issued in such areas which process has also lead to numerous Court case against the Commissioner Land Registration,

Magaino, therefore, advised that the District Land Boards should always seek the advice and technical guidance of the District Environmental Officers and District Forestry Officers to guide whether or r the specific pieces of landfall within or outside the protected zones.

The District Staff Surveys and District Land Officers must always be present in the meetings of the District Land Boards technical advice,” he said

He warned that any allocations that will be made by the District Land Boards on Forest Reserves, Wetlands, and Lake Buffer Zones, Government land, or on land which is already titled, “the Boards will be held accountable,
