The management of the Jamuiyyat Dawa Assalafiyyah and Dar Talim Al Islami Muslim Faction have joined their Kibuli counterpart to deny having unity and reconciliation talks with the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).

On Tuesday this week, a group of Muslim leaders led by mufti Ramathan Mubajje met President Museveni and told him that they had decided to reconcile and unite.

These included Sheikh Obeid Kamulegeya, Sheikh Muhammed Yunusu Kamoga, Sheikh Muhamood Kibaate, Sheikh Kasule Ndilangwa and Sheikh Hamid Umar Kateregga.

Others were Hajji Ramanathan Mugalu, Hajji Faruk Kamulegeya and Masaba Muhamood.

We have sat down on both sides to forge a way of uniting and talking to each other. We now confirm that we have reconciled and that’s why we are here all together to inform you of this development,” Mubajje said

A day after, the Kibuli faction spokesperson Dr Muhammad Musoke Kigundu distanced themselves from the purported talks.

We wish to inform the general public, Supreme Kadhis and all our Muslim Leadership structures countrywide that the Office of the Supreme Mufti was neither invited, nor involved in the purported unity talks,” he said

Now in another new development, Hajji Najib Sonko, the Jamuiyyat Dawa Assalafiyyah spokesperson which is led by Sheikh Kibaate said they were not a party to the talks.

We would like to inform the general public that JDS and Dar Talim AL Islami are legally registered entities under the laws of Uganda with defined rules and regulations governing the running of their day to day activities including decision making,” he said

We would also like to categorically inform the Muslim community and general public at large that whereas Islam as a religion strongly encourages unity among the Ummah and also whereas as JDS we encourage the unity of all Muslims in the country, we inform the public that the message and impression that was sent to public as purported unity of all Muslim leaders is wrong and misguiding,” he added.

Sonko said that their leader and Amir Jamuiyah, Sheikh Mahmood Kibaate Ssebugwawo “was only invited to the statehouse by H.E the President as an individual, but to his surprise, he found the said Muslims leaders with the purported unity talks,”

We, therefore, disassociate ourselves from the said unity talks until genuine, sincere and truthful means are laid down towards a common strategy aimed at a united Muslim community,” he said.

The general public should be informed that JDS and its leaders have NEVER been contacted, consulted, invited or involved in any purported unity talks by any individual, group or state agency
