The International Hospital Kampala (IHK) has officially launched what will be the leading medical diagnostic laboratory in the region
The Mauritius based laboratory, C-Labs, prides itself as one of the ISO-accredited laboratories (ISO 15189 2012) on a basis of reliable and accurate testing.

The Ultra-Modern Laboratory will be providing services including; Tumour Makers, Hormonal Tests, Vitamins, Cardiac Makers, Real-time-PCR COVID-19, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Hereditary Cancer Panels, Routine Tests, Viral Markers, Sexual Health Screen tests, Pregnancy testing and semen analysis among others.

In his speech, Sukhmeet Sandhu Sald, the International Medical Group CEO noted that “As the leading provider of private medical services, it is important that IMG Institutions continue to improve and evolve to meet the needs of our patients.

According to Mr Sandhu, their team was passionate and extremely driven about delivering quality and timely services and the laboratory team consisted of highly experienced pathologists, medical technologists, medical technicians, lab assistants, microbiologists, and other specialists, all working collaboratively.

While officially launching the C-lab, Susan Nabadda the Director of Uganda National Laboratory Services (UNLS) at the Ministry of Health (MOH) highlighted the need for effective functioning Laboratories.

Laboratory services are essential for the delivery of quality health care and should be made available to all the people in Uganda. Poor laboratory services subject patients to inappropriate/useless tests and thus treatments, and wastage of Scarce resources through high out-of-pocket and Government expenditures,” she said

Wrong diagnosis means wrong treatment or no treatment will be given, and the patient’s condition may actually become worse with possible loss of life. On the other hand, a well-functioning medical laboratory service provides accuracy. diagnosis and ensures that patients are treated in a timely manner on the basis of a correct diagnosis,”

she noted that MOH 2009, developed and published the Uganda National Health Laboratory Services Policy.

The policy aims to provide a framework for ensuring that the laboratory services in Uganda are strengthened at each level of healthcare delivery in terms of infrastructure, instrumentation, list of tests, personnel, training, and regulatory issues, etc so as to adequately support the effective and efficient delivery of the Uganda National Minimum Health Care Package (UNMHCP) to all people in Uganda, as advocated by the National Health Policy,” she said

Joel Oron, the IHK General Manager also explained that their focus was on continuous improvement, quality, innovation and client experience. He said that C-lab had a well-trained team of technicians at our service centres who were supported by external experts from c-lab Mauritius and other parts of the world.

C-lab Uganda operates in over 18 locations including IHK and all IMC clinics in Uganda using state-of-the-art equipment to perform over 4000 tests including tests in molecular pathology, cytogenetics, histopathology, clinical biochemistry, Immuno-chemistry, Microbiology, haematology and blood transfusion.

The laboratory with its diagnostic excellence and expanding non-path services aims at being a one-stop solution for the wellness needs of every customer by continuously improving and introducing lab innovations that satisfy the market needs

It had started as part of a small clinic founded in 1953 called Dame’ but later on expanded into 10 collection points around Mauritius which rebranded and incorporated in 2018 in Mauritius, and Uganda In 2022.
