Teso Paramount Chief, Papa Emorimor Augustine Osuban Lemukol has succumbed to covid-19.
Osuban, aged 88, died yesterday evening at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala.
He had been admitted since last week battling coronavirus.
Chief Osuban was first admitted to the Covid-19 Unit in Soroti early in January but his condition deteriorated and he was transferred to Mulago where he died from.
He was the reigning head of the Iteso Cultural Union in Uganda.
The National Resistance Movement – NRM Deputy Chairperson in the Eastern Region, Capt. Mike Mukula confirmed the death of Emorimor in a tweet on Saturday evening, saying further communication regarding the demise would come in later on.
“It’s with deep sorrow that we communicate the demise of our Cultural leader, PAPA EMORIMOR LO ITSEO who has just passed on in Mulato National Referral Hospital, Further communication will be made later,” Mukula said in a tweet.
The Emorimor death comes just weeks after the leaders of the Iteso Cultural Union had announced that elections to choose a new leader would be conducted in March, this year.
He joins some of the cultural leaders who have succumbed to covid-19 in two years, In 2021, Sir Bob Mushikori the Bugisu Cultural leader also succumbed to covid-19 before being joined by his Bugwere counterpart, the Ikumbania of Bagwere Chrysostom Wayabire who also died of COVID-19 later.
