Lt. Gen. Chol Thon J. Balok the Deputy Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs of the Republic of South Sudan has pledged continued protection of Ugandans and other nationals who operate in South Sudan.
For years now, reports of Ugandans especially traders have been reported in South Sudan which angered Ugandans.
The two governments have since worked together to attain peace. Now speaking to DaParrot at the sidelines of the 24th Ndejje University Graduation ceremony on Friday, Lt. Gen. Balok said that they would continue protecting all nationals living in their country.
“We have the best relations in Africa here and Uganda, sometimes crime is there I can’t deny, in South Sudan, there are rare isolated cases that happen to foreigners and even nationals we were at war for so long but on the side of government, this is not our culture to commit the crime and we just object to the law, so this is not intended and we have harbored people including refugees,” he said.
“Uganda and S. Sudan, he said signed a peace agreement which is now being implemented.”
Uganda is one of the guarantors of their agreement, soon the country will be stable and we can assure everybody and working to achieve peace and stability, and very soon we shall attain it,”


Lt. Gen. Balok lauded the education system of Uganda, which he said is of high quality and gives knowledge to not only East Africa but the entire world.
“I would like to say that Uganda is a neighboring country to S. Sudan and is one of the best countries in education,” he said.
Lt Gen. Balok made these remarks after her daughter Jackeline Aben graduated with a first-class degree in Civil Engineering at Ndejje University on Friday.
He congratulated his daughter, whom he said has passed through a lot to attain this degree.
“I congratulate my daughter who has been able to attain a degree in Civil Engineering here, it was not easy for her to be here, she lost her mother last year, and we encouraged her to continue,” he said”I congratulate everybody who graduated here at this University from Ph.D. to Diploma for the job well done, I also congratulate the University for a great job, they are doing regardless of the situation, especially 2019,”
Aben was among the 1937 Graduands who attained degrees, diplomas, Masters, and PhDs. 1174 of these were male and the rest were female.
