Health Ministry Permanent Secretary, Dr. Diana Atwine has confirmed that the deadly Virus is back in Uganda after killing one person.
Dr. Atwine told reporters at the Ministry headquarters that a 24-year-old man tested positive for the hemorrhagic virus before he passed away.
“The confirmed case is a 24-year-old male a resident of Ngabano village of Madudu Sub County in Mubende District,” Dr. Atwine said
“The patient presented with EVD symptoms and later succumbed,” she added
Uganda last witnessed multiple ebola cases in the early 2000s, which claimed hundreds of lives.
This deadly Virus which kills in less than 24 hours is spread by contact with bodily fluids of “an infected person or contaminated materials,”
“It then manifests as a deadly hemorrhagic fever,” Dr. Atwine said
Some of the signs and s of Ebola include among others; fever, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, and at times internal and external bleeding.
Dr. Diana Atwiine said that at least an additional six other people in the same area have died this month after suffering “a strange illness.”
“The good thing is that every district has a rapid response,” she said
“So any clinic in that area which gets any patient with symptoms should contact the district authorities so we can constitute the measures for investigation and isolation.”
