The government has acknowledged that it received a representative from Rwanda for the burial of deceased BOU Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile.
Foreign Affairs ministry made these revelations in a Friday press statement, in acknowledgment and welcoming of Rwanda’s decision to reopen the Katuna Border on Monday next week.
“The Government of Uganda welcomes the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda through their official Twitter handle, about the reopening of the Katuna / Gatuna border post,” reads part of the statement,
“We appreciate the efforts by the two Heads of State; H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and H.E Paul Kagame towards the restoration of the strong historical bilateral ties, crucial for the well-being of the peoples of both countries,” the statement adds,
The government vowed to continue cooperation in addressing any other obstacles to the cordial relations, the two countries are enjoying.
“We appreciate Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Commander of the Land Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) whose visit to Rwanda on 22nd January 2022 gave assurance to the Government of Rwanda on Uganda’s commitment to addressing the remaining obstacles, hence reopening the border on 31st January 2022,”
Rwandan government reopened the border following a meeting that took place between the Land Forces Commander Lt. Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and President Paul Kagame last week.
President Museveni also replaced Maj. Gen Abel Kandiho with Maj. Gen. James Birunji as the CMI Boss this very week, Rwanda had complained on Kandiho for kidnapping its locals.
“The Government of Uganda remains committed to the ongoing efforts to resolve pending issues between our two countries,” the statement added.
