Residents in Mbale City under stewardship of the Deputy District Speaker Abdallah Magambo have accused Dott Services of doing shoddy Works after the road they recently rehabilitated has become a “no-go zone

The said road (as pictured) has developed a huge hole which makes locals prone to crashes, especially at night.

While inspecting the road yesterday night, Magambo co-accused the Mbale City Engineer for failing to supervise the constructions which has since led to shoddy works by what he called “money-oriented companies”

Nabuyonga rise is among the roads in Mbale city that were built under the Uganda Support to Municipality Infrastructure Development (USMID) program with funding from the World Bank.

These roads were Initially, contracted to Zambian-based firm, Plinth Technical Services (PTS) to undertake the road works in 2014 but developed cracks shortly after being commissioned in 2019 pushing the City authority to recently contract Dott service Ltd for rehabilitation.

Magambo who was accompanied by Councilor Isima Mukakadi, the Secretary for Works closed Nabuyonga’s rise last night which had collapsed with a huge hole in the middle.

Magambo told reporters that he believed that the City Authorities in former Mbale municipal council connived with contractors to defraud government funds leading to No supervision thus construction of sub-standard roads.

I advice all the road users to be careful because this might turn out to be a death trap to them,” he said.

Magambo who also doubles as the area councilor called on the Traffic Police who immediately responded at the scene with the reflectors to signal danger on the road to the users since it was in darkness yet a busy road.

Hajji Isima Mukakadi faulted the City engineer for sleeping over his work.

“Road construction in the City couldn’t be like this if we had Engineers who value their work,” he said.

The rain has just started so we expect Dott services Ltd who are the contractors to fix this hole very fast and give good services to the people of Mbale,” he added.

Mukakadi also faulted the City Authorities Citing that they were timely alerted by the driver of Mbale cps patrol truck but Instead kept a deaf ear.

Dott Services has on several occasions been accused by Mbale authorities for not only doing shoddy works but also delaying in implementation of their projects.

For example in the rehabilitation of Naboa Road, Dott Services failed to hit the deadline of February and asked for additional three months which was granted by the City authorities.
