Mbale city Business operators at Mbale Garage are in shock and counting losses following the fire outbreak that burned over 20 kiosks and destroyed properties worth millions.
According to them, this is the third time in the space of 1 year that fire is burning property Mbale Garage.
The eyewitness attributes the fire outbreak to electricity. There were poor electricity connections which caused the fire.
One transformer is not enough to accommodate everyone in the garage yet we use heavy machines.
Yusuf a businessman in Mbale garage whose shop was razed down, says that he has lost everything. His wife called him but to reach goods worth millions were on fire.


He applauded the Police fire and rescue team and the Red cross Uganda for the expeditious response, which managed to stop the fire from causing further damage.
The Elgon Region police Spokesperson Mr. Rogers Taitika said that the business community has lost more properties in the fire.
“As police, we have started our investigations to know the cause of this fire. We can’t accuse anyone for now.” Taitika said.
Taitika noted that it took the intervention of the Police fire and rescue team to stop the fire from spreading to other parts of the garage.
He appealed to the public to continue with the spirit of helping one another to save the properties and stop the fire from spreading to neighboring shops.
He added that the most affected are shops that have been motor vehicle spare parts and lubricants.
