Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has been reappointed as the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University.
Nawangwe whose term was expiring will serve another five-year term, according to the letter wrote by Yusuf Kiranda, the University Secretary.
‘Following the provisions of Section 31(4) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended), and on the recommendation of the University Council, the Chancellor has reappointed Professor Barnabas Nawangwe for a second five-year term as Vice Chancellor of Makerere University with immediate effect,” reads part of the letter.
“We express our deepest gratitude to the Chancellor and the University Council for recognizing Professor Nawangwe’s distinguished service and granting him the opportunity to serve another term as we celebrate 100 years,” he added
A section of leaders at Makerere University staff had petitioned the council, not to re-elect Nawangwe, citing numerous mishaps.
“The University community congratulates Professor Nawangwe on this appointment and guarantees continued collaboration and support as Makerere University enters a new century of service to humanity. Yours faithfully,” the letter says
