Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), has announced that the Jinja Road Police Division is actively investigating a deadly shooting at Shumuk Aluminium Ltd in Nakawa Division earlier on Thursday.

The incident, which took place around 9:00 AM, involved a security guard, Machugayi Emmanuel, employed by Ryayo Security Group Ltd.

According to preliminary reports, Machugayi accessed a firearm from a colleague and, without apparent provocation, shot and killed two fellow guards, identified as Kakyebezi Ashiraf, aged 21, and Owechi Stephen.

“Following the attack, the suspect retreated and later committed suicide when he realized he was encircled by security forces,” Owoyesigyire stated.

Upon receiving the alert, a rapid response team from the Jinja Road Police Division was dispatched to the scene. They found three bodies, which were then transported to the Mulago KCCA Mortuary for autopsies.

“The investigation team secured two rifles and several spent cartridges at the site. We’ve also taken statements from the first security officers who arrived at the scene,” Owoyesigyire added.

The motive for the shooting is lately still under scrutiny and Police are calling for public patience and calmness as they delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses as this story is still developing.
