Police at Kira Division are investigating a case of aggravated torture involving a 4-year-old girl that occurred on December 27 in Kikoko Zone, Namataba Cell, Kirinya Ward, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), on Saturday stated that the victim, identified as Tumwekwase Claire, was allegedly tortured by Tumuhirwe Precious, a 35-year-old housemaid employed by the family for four years.
“Following the incident, the suspect fled but was apprehended in Kabale District. She is currently detained at Kabale Central Police Station, with plans underway to transfer her to Kira Division for further investigation,” Owoyesigyire asserted.
Currently, Police preliminary findings reveal that the victim’s father, Mwesigwa Michael, a 35-year-old resident of Kikonko-Kirinya, has been the primary caregiver for his children since separating from their mother two years ago and the housemaid had been recommended by mutual acquaintances in Kabale District.
Police condemned all forms of violence against children especially in these festivities and urged the public to report any suspected abuse to the nearest police station.
“The victim is receiving medical treatment at Nsambya Hospital as investigations continue to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Owoyesigyire said.
The force reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice is served and called for vigilance in protecting children from violence and abuse.
