Fred Enanga the Police spokesperson has condemned the act which the public conducted to the suspected criminals at the Kampala Northern by pass last week.
On Saturday October 5, these four suspects who are believed to be part of the gang that uses Taxis to rob passengers attempted to rob a passenger who made an alarm that attracted responders amongst civilians and motorists along the high way.
Upon the interception, Ssenyange Benjamin, Kanyeza Jonus, Busingye and Namyalo Mercy were rounded up, beaten thoroughly and both male and female made to strip naked which later went viral on social media.
“We strongly condemn this disgraceful, barbaric, in human and degrading treatment because under whatever circumstances these are parents” Enanga added.
Enanga also noted that the modesty of women has to be protected and respected at all times and this is why as Police they join their voice to the women right groups and the public that have already condemned this act.
Enanga made these remarks at the weekly security briefing at the Police headquarters in Naguru on Monday.
The Police mouth piece however noted that though investigations are currently proceeding on charges of aggravated robbery to the four suspects, on the other hand they have opened a separate file of attempted murder and indecent assault against the suspects.
“This is turning into a habit, the movement of boda boda recently stripped and started making fun of a woman who was suspected to be in conflict with crime in down town Kampala” He noted.
