Police Boss Promotes Tokyo 2020 Olympics Participants

In execution of powers delegated to him by the president, the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola has promoted subordinate officers who participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, to various police force ranks.

According to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, the promoted officers are all being recognized for their athletic excellence in the recently concluded Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

For the great success, prise, and jubilation they brought, the IGP continues to thank them for their historic win and achievements for the country and the Police Force as well,” he said.

He adds that the letters appointing them will be handed over to them during the piping ceremony and in celebration of their achievement at Police Headquarters, whose arrangements are in place.

He further encouraged them to continue excelling in their field of sports and inspire young talent into sports and further take their responsibilities very seriously in promoting the image of the police and Uganda as a country,” stressed Enanga

Among the promoted is SPC Chemutai Peruth (Gold Medalist) who has been regraded to Police Constable and promoted from Police Constable to Inspector of Police, AIP Chelangat Mercyline has been promoted from Assistant Inspector of Police to Inspector of Police.

CPL Chemutai Immaculate is promoted from Corporal to Sergeant while PC Shida Renny is promoted from Police Constable to Corporal.

However, Enanga said that the IGP continues to fast track the promotion of Inspector of Police (IP), Cheptegei Joshua Kiprui (Gold and Silver Medalist), and that of his coach, Inspector of Police, (IP) Njia Benjamin, from the rank of Inspector of Police to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), with the Police Authority, which has the mandate of appointing and promoting gazetted officers.
