Police Bans Unauthorized Drones from Carrying Passengers

Police have issued a two days ultimatum for all Hiace motor drivers commonly known as drones who use their vehicles to carry passengers

The 14-sitter carrier will from Wednesday 16 be impounded off the roads if found carrying the passengers and with no required documents  to do so

Speaking during a weekly press briefing at the police headquarters in Naguru, head traffic police spokesperson Faridah Nampiima noted that these vehicles were not licensed to carry passengers or even charge a certain fee at that matter, and thus by doing so they were violating the traffic rules.

She added that therefore they were only giving an allowance of only two days to these drivers before the operations officially resume on the road

“All those operating drones as passenger service vehicles especially along Entebbe and Jinja roads, your vans don’t have licenses to do this and therefore you will be charged for doing so,” she said

Adding that no EPS ticket will be issued to that fact since they are not operating passenger service vehicles and that whoever will fall victim of the circumstance will be taken to the courts of law.

Nampima thus urged whoever was willing to join the passenger service  business to do so but however, pay a visit to the ministry of works so as to register and have their vehicles recognized as PSVS

This operation follows a massive campaign that’s aimed at restoring discipline and ensuring road safety for all boda boda riders

The campaign  still ongoing has seen the impounding of over 12,217 boda bodas in a space of only six days for not having  head gears or reflector jackets in a bid to curb the increasingly high rates of accidents on the roads

According to the police reports revealed that in a fortnight Uganda has registered over 666 accidents of which 632 involved 100 deaths and  532 survived with injuries.
