Following an extensive investigation, police arrested a key suspect, Mwanje Gerald, also known as Kigere Muzeyi, on September 6 in Kalisizo town.
The robbery, which took place on August 24, involved armed assailants stealing UGX 150 million from Pulinali Semanda, a 53-year-old businessman and owner of Zavuga Coffee Investments.
The incident occurred at Semanda’s home after he withdrew the cash from Centenary Bank in Kyotera, which was intended to pay workers and coffee suppliers.
According to police, Mwanje confessed to his role in the robbery and was captured on CCTV footage taking the money from Semanda’s car while his accomplice, Joseph Kagimu (alias Bruno), held the victim at gunpoint with an AK-47 rifle.
“Another suspect, Alex Lule (alias Dodo), provided transportation to and from the scene, while Alex Nabbimba, their witch doctor, conducted surveillance to alert them of any security presence,” said police spokesperson Kituuma.
Additionally, police arrested 25-year-old Senteza Fred, a boda boda rider and Mwanje’s brother. Senteza was allegedly sent by Bruno to retrieve a car from a washing bay after becoming suspicious of police activity. He is now assisting authorities in tracking down other suspects who remain at large.
After the robbery, the suspects used the stolen money to purchase vehicles, which have since been impounded by the police.
