Minister Ogwang Pledges Shs60M funding to Katakwi Church Football team

Peter Ogwanga, the state minister for economic monitoring has promised a UGX60m boost to Katakwi Church FC.

He made this announcement during a three-hour management zoom meeting held by the teams’ executive on Tuesday discussing among others the way forward of sports in Katakwi and also how to have Church Team qualify to the big league.

Ogwanga noted that he was going to give the team over Shs60Mto help it revive its glory.

Giving Team Church full boost would give a mandate to the team to independently spot talent across the district over time without the involvement of political hands, among other issues that drain the success of the great team,” Ogwanga noted

Adding that the management needed to draft business plans which could aid sustainability of the team and also pay players, and even pay fees for the young talent.

These among others included Rev Opio, the club board Chair, Dr. Emmanuel Ongala, the club chair, Julius Arega, the interim Club CEO.

Minister also noted that when this was done, fundraising would be held with a target to raise at least 100M in addition to the previous support.

He revealed that so far, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Anita Among and the FUFA President Hon Moses Magoogo had confirmed their presence in the proposed fundraising and over 60 MRS also willing to attend and support the course.

Meanwhile, the minister urged the management to enter into a memorandum of understanding (M.O.U ) with the Church of Uganda founded St. Paul Comprehensive Secondary School, to have scholarships for the sports talents spotted and also make St. Paul the first sports academy school in Teso.
