Parents have been cautioned against waiting for the 9 months gestation period to elapse but rather routinize preparing for birthright from the time one has conceived in the essence of attaining maternity efficiency.
According to Masindi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Emmy Ngabirano, timely preparation which involves saving money to cater for maternity fees makes any maternal-related constraint timely and manageable.
“I also want to empower women to make sure that they have their private savings which can rescue them during their time of need. The other message is the timing, don’t wait for the entire 9 months to end and then rush to the hospital, if you have been attending antenatal, they normally give a reserve of one week-two week, please let’s have this one week within the health care facility such that you can deliver safely,” he said.
Rebecca Munafu, the Iganga District Health Educator without retaliating Ngabirano’s words adds that men must fully get involved in wives’ maternity lives.
To this end, she urges that men must not simply end up escorting wives for antenatal which she said has since become a trend but also provide for all maternity necessities.
“When its birth time, this am saying including the men, help your wife to prepare because, by nine months period, you should have prepared enough so that when the wife gets labor pains, you’re well-equipped and know how to reach her to hospital,” she said adding that;
“For any man to be proved caring, as long as he can provide to the mother like transport, buying her necessities then to us he has cared even when he has not escorted the wife physically because he is the same person who will look for money.”
Statistically, 27 per 1000 babies delivered die before their first birthday and 336 per 100,000 mothers die giving birth due to maternal-related complications; these Munafu said are manageable with timely start and finishing of all recommended antenatal visits.
“The other reason is finishing all your recommended antenatal visits because currently, we undertake 8 antenatal visits but when you start at 7 months will you complete the 8 visits, you won’t.
