The court in Nabweru, Wakiso district has convicted a parent for aiding impersonation, a form of examination Malpractice.
Amina Nalwadda, a guardian/ Aunt of Kawempe Standard SS candidate Hudah Namuwonge, while she appeared before Nabweru Grade 1 Magistrate Her Worship, Sanyu Mukasa pleaded guilty to the offense.
On the above basis, Justice Mukasa sentenced Nalwadda to a fine of shs.4.8Milliom or a custodial sentence of 1 year.
Under the UNEB Act 2021, impersonation attracts a fine of shs. 20 million or a term of imprisonment not exceeding 5 years, or both.
However, According to the magistrate, Her Worship Mukasa Sanyu, the reduced sentence was based on the fact that the accused is a 1st-time offender, and did not waste the court’s time when she timely pleaded guilty to the offense.
The prosecution alleged that Nalwadda offered to pay off an S.3 student, Emmanuel Muwonge, from another school, to write examinations for her daughter.
“Both students were dully registered as candidates of Kawempe Stanard SS.”
Court further released the co-accused Moses Hamala, the head teacher of Kawempe SS on a none cash bail of shs. 5 Million and the case adjourned to November 7, 2022.
According to Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Spokesperson, Jenifer Kalule, the two students who directly participated in the malpractice are currently writing their examinations but will soon after be tried before the court.
“The candidates will be tried in a juvenile court since they are minors. In the meantime, they are being allowed to write their examinations,” she said.
In the same regard, Police are still on track with Godfrey Kigozi, who provided Muwonge for impersonation. The malpractice occurred on Monday, October 17, during the UACE mathematics paper.
