Geoffrey Sseremba the Accounting Officer at the Prime Minister has revealed that 3,339 iron sheet beneficiaries risk not receiving any iron sheets due to list disparities.

Of the 95044 iron sheets that were delivered to the OPM only 20500 have been released including 6000, 1000 of which were distributed in Moroto, 5000 in Nakapiripiti and 14500 given as donation.

74,544 pieces are still held in the OPM store in Namanve.

Of the 14,500 however,  that were given as donation, minister for karamoja  mary goretti kitutu agreed to the fact that she gave away these iron sheets dispite of the beneficiaries not being part of the intial the list of actual beneficiaries.

Sseremba who was appearing before the committee on presidential affairs probing the diversion of the intended karamoja relief items, on Wednesday, noted that the list of beneficiaries in karamoja still hanged in balance as stake holders failed to harmonize on the number of  beneficiaries.

According to the accounting officer, the numbers on both the district local government  list and that of the region members of parliament (MPs) were exceedingly higher than that of the intended iron sheets to be distributed out.

“The challenge here in  the process of obtaining input from stake holders, we got submissions from the district local government and from MPs and the numbers submitted when added up exceed what the available iron sheet can meet,” Sseremba said.

Adding that there was still an on going harmonization to arrive at final numbers of the beneficiary lists and that that explained why a bigger portion was still in stores.

She however added that she will be able to disect the matter further more on Fiday were she will be tasked to explained on as to why she diverted resources that were meant for the karamoja region
