Senior Journalist Dickson Mubiru the proprietor of the Luganda local dialet Ono Bwino, English News Website Grapevine and the newly established Top Secrets Newspaper has been arrested.

The news of Mubiru’s arrest was broken by Andrew Irumba, the president of the Independent Online Journalist Association (INDOJA) who said that his Offices were sorrounded by plain cloth gun holding personel before he was arrested.

“Mr. Dickson  Mubiru, a member of the Independent Online Journalists Association (INDOJA-U) told Andrew Irumba Katusabe, president of the association, via phone call, that him and his staff are not allowed to leave the premises currently,” Irumba said

In a subsequent statement, Irumba said that Mubiru had told him that he had been arrested and detained at Nkrumah Police Post.

“Dickson has confirmed to Andrew Irumba (president INDOJA-U) that it’s tycoon Ham Kiggundu behind his arrest, having personally talked to him on X-mas at his home,” Irumba said

“Dickson also revealed that John Sserwaniko, the editor of Mulengera News slept in the coolers in Kira Div.on December 23rd over the same stories, but was released after he wrote an apology to the tycoon swearing never to even look in the side where he’s coming from,” he added

In another statement however, Emmanuel Kirunda the Secretary General Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) said that Mubiru was arrested because he annoyed the first family.

Kirunda said that Mubiru was arrested because he asked the president about the ongoing abductions during the recent journalists engagement with the president at State House Nakasero thus  annoying the first family, according to the Nkurumah road police officers.

“He was detained at Nkurumah police post before he could be moved to Kira police division,” he said adding,

“Let’s all rise up and fight for a colleague’s rights by demanding for his un conditional release,” he added.
