NRMs Ariko Wins Soroti By-election

Herbert Edmund Ariko, the NRM candidate in the Soroti by-elections has finally won the polls.

Ariko was declared by Christine Eyu the Soroti District Returning Officer after garnering 9407 votes, followed by FDCs Moses Okia Attan with 8771 votes.

Pascal Amuriat from UPC trailed with 115 votes.

The total number of votes cast, where 18,293 where 313 votes were rejected, 18,606 votes counted, and 107 spoilt ballot papers.

“Accordingly, as Returning Officer for Soroti City Electoral District and in accordance with Section 58(1) of the Parliamentary Elections (As amended), I declare Ariko Edmund Okworo who has obtained the largest number of votes, to be elected candidate for Soroti East Div Constituency Soroti City Electoral District,” she said

The by-election came after Ariko petitioned Court over discrepancies that ensued in the 2021 polls.
