The NRM leadership has rallied all party supporters to back Rose Kabagyeni, the party’s flag bearer for Kisoro District Woman MP, in the upcoming by-election.
In a series of rallies across Rubuguri and Nkuringo town councils in Bukimbiri County, NRM leaders called for unity among voters, urging them to support Kabagyeni, who was chosen as the NRM candidate following the passing of Sarah Mateke, the former MP.
Hon. Jacqueline Kyatuhaire, the NRM Deputy National Treasurer, expressed confidence in Kabagyeni’s prospects despite some primary losers choosing to run as independents. She called on the Kisoro NRM leadership, especially the LC3 chairpersons, to support the official candidate and avoid using party resources to back independents.
“We urge the people of Kisoro to reject those who bypass party rules by running as independents. We are committed to winning this election and call on our local leaders to stay aligned with the party’s goals,” said Kyatuhaire, noting the positive reception from locals. “We must remain strong, committed, and determined to secure victory for the NRM.”
Hon. Rosemary Seninde, NRM Director of Mobilisation, emphasized the importance of Kabagyeni’s candidacy, noting that NRM has Kisoro District’s best interests at heart. She highlighted NRM’s commitment to unity, urging residents to avoid division based on religion or ethnicity, as it could hinder progress in the region.
“Our mission is to remind Kisoro residents why they should vote for NRM. The NRM is built on unity and inclusivity. We don’t want divisions to harm this unity. We aim to bring people together and achieve a united victory,” Seninde stated.
Rose Kabagyeni reassured voters of her commitment to delivering peace, stability, growth, and development to the district. “My campaign time is limited, but my message to voters is clear: vote NRM for progress and stability,” she said.
Joining Kabagyeni on her campaign trail were senior NRM officials, including Rogers Mulindwa, Senior Manager for Communications; Samuel Eyenga, Senior Manager for Mobilisation; and other district party leaders.
In the morning, the NRM team visited the family of the late Hon. Sarah Mateke, former Minister of State for Defence and Woman MP for Kisoro. They paid their respects at the Mateke family home, laying a wreath at Sarah Mateke’s grave and honoring her legacy and dedicated service to Uganda.
