NITA-U gets new Board

After 11 months, the National Information Technology Uganda (NITA-U) yesterday sworn in its Board of Directors.

The Board includes; Mr Alexandra Kibandama its chairperson, Ms Jackie Aneno Oboi-Ochola, Dr Theodora Mondo, Mr Micheal Ocero Mr Julius Otai, and Prof Annabella Habinka Basaza Ejii, and the authority’s executive director Dr Hatwib Mugasa.

It will represent the Minister of ICT Dr Chris Baryomunsi who officiated its swearing-in yesterday.

The Board is expected to supervise the daily activities of the Agency which later reports back to the minister. The Board is in charge of formulating policies, and guidelines, approving the budget among others

Dr Baryomunsi while ushering in the Board said,
“I pledge to offer all support to you and ensure that you lead the transformation Agenda,”

Dr Mugasa equally said that the Board, he said will help them in directing the Agency while executing its mandate.

By the end of five years, the entire country, he said will have an internet connection which will help in reducing the cost of internet.

“We want to see people in the villages having free WIFI Hot spots at the moment we have 280 WIFI Hot spots in Kampala, Entebbe, and Jinja and 300 in other regions like Mbarara, Soroti market, Gulu and we are intending to now charge a small fee so that it is effective and cost-affordable,” he said.

The sworn-in Board members include; Dr Baryomunsi said that the Board will help them in their robust transformation Agenda.
Speaking at the function, Mr. Kibandama said that he will prioritize numerous transformation Agendas led by ensuring that the country attains its full internet connectivity.
