Amb. Amina Chawahir Mohamed Jibril the newly appointed Chancellor of the International University of East Africa (IUEA), will be installed on Wednesday February 15, next week, the management has announced.
Mohamed was appointed earlier this week, succeeding IUEA’s Founding Chancellor, the late BOU Governor, Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile who passed on in January 2022.
Prof. Mutebile, served as Chancellor from 2010 to January 2022.
“It’s an Honour to have a Prominent lady Figure in such a position. She is not Kenyan but East African. She is part of us,” John John Jacob, the Marketing Consultant of IUEA said in a statement sent to DaParrot on Friday.
“It adds High Value to the Brand of the University. The Brand Image, the Brand Trust and the Brand Reputation,” he added.
Ms. Mohamed is a prominent lawyer, diplomat and politician who has a passion for education.
“She also has immense national, regional and international leadership experience. She served as the Cabinet Secretary for Sports in Kenya,” Jacob said
Previously, she served as chairwoman of the International Organization for Migration and the World Trade Organization’s General Council.
She also served as the Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme.
Ms. Mohamed also served as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya from May 2013 to February 2018, before President Uhuru Kenyatta, after re-election, moved her to the Education Ministry.
In March 2019, she was moved to the Sports Ministry.
The installation shall take place at the IUEA Auditorium starting exactly 8:00am.
