Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has revealed that the newly acquired buses will ease the movement of students, especially in fieldwork.
Principals of the three Colleges including the College of Agriculture and Environmental Science, College of Health Sciences, and the College of Veterinary Medicine Animal Resources and Bio-security on Monday received the new buses from Prof Nawangwe.

“I thank the Parliament of Uganda for appropriating the money that enabled us to procure the buses. The buses will enhance the mobility of our students to training sites. Makerere University is committed to giving our students the best academic experience,”

“With university farmlands located across the country and partner hospitals both in and outside Kampala, the buses will ease travel for students undertaking field and practical training,” he added.
At a ceremonious function held at the University Freedom Square, the Vice Chancellor asked the beneficiary Colleges to ensure that the buses are kept in good shape and as well serve their intended purposes.

The three Principals heaped praises on Prof Nawangwe, whose leadership they said has transformed the University tremendously.
Assoc. Professor Bruce Kirenga, the Principal of the College of Health Sciences said, “We want to thank the University for prioritizing the College of Health Sciences to receive this bus because we diversified our teaching hospitals from Mulago to Kiruddu and Kawempe hospitals, they also go to communities in large numbers and these buses will be key in delivering them there,”

His counterpart from the College of Agriculture and Environmental Science Prof Gorettie Nabanoga, said the onboarding of these new buses brings us closer to the people we want to serve as the University
“I want to thank Prof Nawangwe under whose leadership we have seen a transformation in the way we engage with the community. Our role is not only to create knowledge but also ensure that our students are helped to engage with the communities to serve humanity and create impact,”
Prof Frank Nobert Mwine, Principle of Veterinary Medicine Animal Resources and Bio-security also noted that “The bus is going to facilitate us especially for movement of our students to meet farmers across the country and this is a good opportunity for taking them closer to the farmers instead of farmers coming here, we shall take the services closer to farmers.”
