Mutuzo to Ugandans: Promote Country’s Rich Cultural Diversity Through Opportunities

Peace Regis Mutuuzo the Minister of State for Gender and Culture affairs has urged more Ugandans to remain vigilant and seek more opportunities to promote the country’s rich cultural diversity and artistic works.

Minister Mutuuzo made these remarks while updating the country on the Ugandan pavilion at the 59th International Art Exhibition in Venice Italy on Wednesday.

Currently, Uganda is participating in the 59th edition of the International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia which started in April this year under the theme “Radiance, They Dream in Time”.

According to Mutuuzo, when Uganda’s pavilion was officially commissioned by Ambassador Elizabeth Paula, the country was represented by renowned Ugandans Acaye Kerunen and Collin Sekajugo.

“In our effort to reinforce and promote the East African Community integration, we picked Mr. Shaheen Merali from Tanzania though a British citizen as the curator of the works of these Ugandans” Mutuuzo added.

Proud Mutuuzo also noted that as a country they are happy to be part of this international event and they believe that this participation will further strengthen and promote Uganda’s bilateral cultural relations and also showcase the country’s rich culture and tourism.

The 2021 UNESCO report on the creative economy stated that the African cultural products industry employs half a million people and it currently generates about $4.billion in income it’s according to these statistics the government was proud of the pavilion.

Mutuuzo also revealed that the government under the Gender Ministry is organizing the biggest cultural festival of the year as part of the celebrations of 60 years since the country gained its independence.

“I call upon you all to join us and support this festival that will run from 7th to 9th of October at the National Theatre in Kampala” Mutuuzo articulated.

The 4th UNCC Annual Arts and Culture Festival this year will be held under the theme “Celebrating cultural heritage” and it will also involve several events like a cultural parade, a cultural extravaganza plus several exhibitions.

Uganda’s participation in the 59th International Art Exhibition was made possible with support from the central Government through the Gender Ministry, Uganda National Cultural Center, and Alliance Francoise amongst others.

The 2022 edition can also be viewed virtually and it will run up to the 27th of November.
