President Museveni has praised Jacob Kiplimo for winning the half marathon in Barcelona Spain.

“Hearty congratulations to Jacob Kiplimo, who has this morning broken the world half marathon record in Barcelona with a time of 56 minutes and 41 seconds,” Museveni posted on his X-platform.

Kiplimo reclaimed the men’s half marathon World Record at the 2025 Barcelona Half Marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label road race, running 56:42.

Kiplimo’s time smashed the previous mark of 57:30 set by Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha at the 2024 Valencia Half Marathon in October. The 48 second drop was the largest improvement in the record’s progression.

Kiplimo had previously held the World Record in the event (57:31) from November 2021 – October 2024 before being surpassed by Kejelcha.

Kiplimo claimed the 2024 World Athletics Cross Country Championships individual title in Belgrade last March. He is an Olympic bronze medalist (Tokyo 2020, 10,000m) and World Championships bronze medalist (Eugene 2022, 10,000m).
