Mbale: Seven Arrested Over Sale of Gov’t Land

The joint security of both the state house Anti-corruption unit and Mbale City police arrested seven former Technical officers of Nakaloke Town council in Mbale City in connection with the selling of illegal public land for Mbale district local government.

The arrested officers include; former Nakaloke Town council town clerk Aaron Mulyanyuma Ayeta, deputy town clerk Kassim Waboga, land supervisor Godfrey Wosheba, others Monica Wazemwa, Nambuya Mary, 

 Zebia Edyau Newumbe and Sarah Khauta all were members of the area land committee. 

Elgon region police spokesperson Rogers Taitika confirmed the arrest saying, the state House Anti-corruption unit arrested the seven suspects for allegedly allocating govt land to private developers in Nakaloke Town council Mbale City.

Taitika said the arrested officers are former town clerk Nakaloke Town council, deputy town clerk, physical planner, land supervisor, and members of the area land committee. 

He said the suspects are at Mbale CPS, as investigations are still going on to see More arrested and later paraded in Anti-corruption courts of law and charged. 

Juma Kabosi a resident of Nakaloke Town council said, what the leaders and Technocrats did to sell off the land was wrong.

We asked for the elevation of the Nakaloke health center III into IV but we can’t achieve that when we are selling the open spaces which could have helped us.

Okwia Nathan another resident of Nakaloke Town council blames the government officials for conniving with some politicians to sell off govt properties.

However, we spoke to one of the developers whose names were withheld for security reasons says that those ones are just playing their politics.

He noted that this case is in high court waiting for the ruling why rush back to the Anti-corruption unit yet even the IGG finished their investigations?

He said that for them they’re investors who bought the land to develop so if the government is fighting to take it back then they should refund their money.
