Mbale police are investigating circumstances under which 16 shops majority of spare parts of motorcycles and motor vehicles were gutted by a fire outbreak in Mbale Garage located in St Andrews cell, St.Andrews ward, industrial city division-Mbale City.
The fire started at about 3 am last night and it is suspected to have started from one of the restaurants and it crossed to Motor vehicle Spare parts shops up to the welding shops.
Rogers Taitika police spokesperson Elgon subregion said that the police firefighter team intervened and the fire was contained.
However, a total of 16 stalls that were burnt include 04 welding shops, 09 Motor Vehicle spare parts while others were furniture shops, restaurants, and others
Taitika added that the fire is suspected to have been caused by a charcoal stove left in one of the restaurants
He appealed to the public to desist from leaving burning items on.
