Mbale Landslide Victims Grapple with what to Eat

One of the floods ravaged areas in Kichafu

It’s a hard time for Mbale Landslide victims as the recently displaced are grappling with what to eat.

The victims that have since camped at Buyango community primary school in Buyango village, Buyango parish in Busano Sub County are surviving on only porridge with prioritizing children first.

Fred Weswa, the LCI Chairperson of Buyango village, says the victims are also using water from dirty sources rising fears of an outbreak of waterborne diseases.

Vincent Wanjera, one of the victims says they are just wandering at the trading center with nothing to eat.

“There are more than 100 victims at the school that are yet to receive any relief support from the government since they camped at the school.”

Scovia Nagudi, another affected resident with 8 children, says they are only surviving at the mercy of well-wishers in the community who give them something to eat.

Hakim Ssemakukula, another victim reveals, that, some children at the camp are getting malnourished and developing signs of sickness due to a lack of what to eat.

Jonathan Wandeka Wambwa, the former LCIII Chairperson of Busano sub-county, faults district authorities for neglecting the landslide victims.

“These people need food, safe water, and bedding materials, but the district is silent as if they don’t know what is going on in Buyango”. says Wambwa.
