Police in Mbale on orders of Ahamada Washaki the Resident City Commissioner, Investigated an intern doctor attached to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital over bribery allegations.
The one Simwoni, on Saturday allegedly asked a Shs100,000 bribe from Anthony Mutenyo, a resident of Northern City Division, after the latter’s patient who had been admitted to the facility a week ago passed on.
According to Washaki, it is reported that Dr. Simwoni after receiving pleas from Mutenyo, to discharge the body such that he could transport it back home for burial,
“He refused to ask to be given the Shs100,000 which prompted his arrest,” Washaki said
Upon learning about this “gruesome, regrettable incident,” Washaki launched the probe against the suspected culprit.
This news was received with great regret by Patrick Kumili, the Senior Hospital Administrator at Mbale regional referral hospital, who has since described the accused person as an intern doctor.
“As hospital administrators, we are investigating the matter and if proven right, the accused doctor will be summoned to the disciplinary committee,”
Kimuli urged the public to always report such staff members who extort money from them before they can be offered services that are actually free.
