Haji Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune the State Minister for Finance in charge of Microfinance, has urged leaders across the country to leverage the available government programs and interventions to create wealth for themselves and the communities they serve.

Addressing participants in a two-week leadership transformation training, Kasolo encouraged leaders to take advantage of the various government funds designed to support wealth creation initiatives.

The training, which draws leaders from 10 districts, is being held at the National Leadership Training Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi District and the Oliva Reginald Tambo School of Leadership and Pan-African Center of Excellence in Kaweweta, Nakaseke District.

Kasolo emphasized that leaders should engage in wealth-generating activities beyond their political roles, noting that government stipends and allowances alone are insufficient.

“It is the duty of every Ugandan to create wealth, as the government has provided an enabling environment for everyone to thrive,” Kasolo remarked.

Maj. Gen. Henry Matsiko, another speaker at the event, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that leadership involves identifying and addressing the challenges facing the people. He added that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) is committed to promoting prosperity and happiness for all Ugandans through its ideology-driven governance.

Andrew Lukyamuzi Batemyetto, Masaka District LC V Chairperson and a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), highlighted poverty—not political opposition—as the primary challenge facing Uganda. He shared insights gained during the training, expressing his commitment to tackling poverty in his district.

The training, which involves over 1,000 leaders from the districts of Kiboga, Masaka, Yumbe, Kibuku, Kibaale, Nakasongola, Gomba, Mbarara, Kalungu, and Mbarara City, is organized by the Office of the Prime Minister in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and the Patriotism Secretariat.

The program is expected to conclude on Sunday, September 8, 2024, with President Yoweri Museveni presiding over the closing ceremony at NALI, where all participants will gather for the final event.
