Final Polls Results will be Declared by IEBC-Media Council
In a press statement released on Wednesday, the Media Council of Kenya told Kenyans that it is only the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that will declare the final winner of the polls.
David Omwoyo Omwoyo Chief Executive Officer and Secretary to the Council warned a section of media houses from declaring the results of the ongoing presidential polls count.
The Council noted in a press statement that there is a growing concern about the different election results being transmitted by media houses.
“The Council appreciates this as a genuine uneasiness, given its implication on anxiety levels among the public,” he said
“The Council confirms that the results being projected are all from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) though the sequencing by different media houses is from different voting areas,” he added.
Omwoyo Omwoyo said that the Media Council is in consultation with Media Owners and Editors to find an urgent solution to this to ensure Kenyans receive synchronized results.
Media houses, he said have previously executed joint production with remarkable success on such matters of national interest.
“In the meantime, we remind Kenyans that the final results of the elections will be declared by IEBC,”
