Kapelebyong: Joy as Karamojong Cattle Raid Victims Receive Relief Items

Joy engulfed the faces of locals of Kapelebyong district who were recently affected by cattle raids from neighboring Karamoja Sub Region as they received relief aid from the Teso Emergency Agenda (TEA).

The relief which included Food, Clothes, and Shoes was delivered by the Chairman TEA Ojatum Joseph and the Regional Coordinator Teso Sub Region Ejoku Stephen to the District Chairperson Kapelebyong Francis Akorikin and later distributed to the Beneficiaries who were selected according to the vulnerability.

Over 200 people benefited from the relief, However, the District Chairman Kapelebyong Francis Akorikin appealed to Different NGOs as well as Government through the Office of the Prime Minister to intervene and provide more relief to the Disadvantaged Kapelebyong Community.

Among those who received the relief were the widows who lost their Husbands through Karamojong Cattle raids, the elderly, and the poor among others.

The District Chairman also applauded the Government for improving the security in the District which has led to a decrease in the number of raids. He noted that there is hope for relief as communities have started engaging in Agriculture.

Kamende Teddy Ajom a District Councillor representing Okungur Sub County highlighted floods due to low-lying areas and Poor roads as the major issues facing the district.

She noted that each Subcounty gets three million shillings from roads which she says is a drop in an ocean. She appealed to the Government to increase the funding in the next financial year and also provide road equipment which is totally lacking in the District.

Ojatum Joseph Chairperson of Teso Emergency Agenda was pleased with the initiative and thanked those who contributed towards the initiative but he also called upon other NGOs and Government Agencies to Join Teso Emergency Agenda in Providing relief to the Affected Communities.
