I Will Advocate for Improved Working Conditions of Workers In & Abroad; Musinguzi Speaks out on New Appointment

I Shall Advocate for Better Working Conditions of Workers; Musinguzi Speaks out on New Appointment Joshua Laban Musinguzi, the newly appointed coordinator for Parliamentary Forum on Labour, Decent Employment and Productivity has promised to advocate for the better working conditions of all workers both abroad.

“The focus is basically on the legislation of labour, decent employment and productivity whereby we are looking at what are the laws, which laws are we looking at that can govern the labour section, what can we look at for a Ugandan to have a better or safe space at their workplace both in and out of this country,” he said shortly after receiving the appointment letter.

DaParrot broke the story of Musinguzi’s appointment yesterday night.

According to the June 1 letter, seen by this website, Hon. Roland Ndyomugenyi the Chairperson of the Forum informed Musinguzi that he was the successful candidate for the post of coordinator.

“I am happy to inform you that after the interviews and the presentation you made, you have been successful,” reads part of the letter reaction, Musinguzi said he will do whatever it takes to use this position to better the lives of workers

“This is a very big opportunity for us to serve this country in different capacities and I am sure that we the Industry, are looking forward to having each and every stakeholder so that we can drive this economy to the next step and ensure that Uganda develop and attain SDG Goals because our emphasis is on SDG 8 where we are looking for how to achieve collective economic growth through proper productivity and migration,” he said

“We need to understand that it’s a trend, change it’s everyone’s input, contribution towards this we are looking at embracing every idea, harmonising every law that can be implemented in this country,”

The Parliamentary Forum on Labour, Decent Employment and Productivity, which was registered on October 11, 2021, was put in place with the sole aim to advocate and promote the role of decent employment opportunities and productive labour in achieving sustainable wealth creation through effective stakeholder engagement, legislation and oversight it’s among other objectives are to promote policy coherence to labour, employment and productivity across sectors, effectively undertake a key role in legislating on issues relating to labour, employment and productivity, provide a platform where strategic advocacy and pressure groups can analyze labour, employment and productivity issues and advocate, champion and strategically influence resource allocation for programs that advance

Ndyomugenyi told Musinguzi in the letter, that the forum has not had any funding yet, and as discussed, he will be required to generate income through proposal writing, funders identification and any other methods you may employ to bring in the required funding for the forum’s operations and activities.

He further informed him that the forum will begin paying him based on the revenue collected every month.

“We congratulate you on your appointment and wish you a long career with us. We assure you a great journey and full support for your professional growth and development,” Before this appointment, Musinguzi has been working as the AG. Head of the External Labour Externalisation (ELM).
