450 homeless families that survived the recent Mbale landslides that claimed over 30 people will tomorrow start on the journey of re-owning their homes back.

African Women and Youth Action for Development (AWYAD) in partnership with Help Age International have rescued the families that have for months survived on the mercy of good Samaritans.

In the drive announced on Thursday, AWYAD will tomorrow distribute Mattresses, Blankets, Iron sheets, jerrycans, raincoats, and water purification buckets.

Speaking at the launch held at  Mbale Regional Block in Mbale City,  Steven Wamon Bwayo the Executive Director of AWYAD narrated that when the flood incident occurred, AWYAD took initiative and responsibility to look for partners and moved around to monitor and find out how many people were affected.

“We as well evaluated how they were affected and how many of the affected have been assisted,” he said

This, he said has helped them to ably generate a list of the victims.

Floods in early August ravaged the people of the City after River Nabuyonga burst its banks following a heavy downpour.

Several organizations have since come up to give a helping hand to the survivors who have since become homeless.
