In comemoration of World Food Day 2024, Glovo, a leading multi-category app, has reaffirmed its commitment to improving food accessibility by delivering over 500,000 social meals through its Glovo Access initiative.

Launched in March 2024, Glovo Access ensures that vulnerable populations in Uganda receive nutritious food, addressing food insecurity across the country.

This year’s World Food Day theme, “Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future,” highlights the importance of tackling global hunger. Glovo Uganda is taking a leading role in this effort.

“Glovo is committed to leveraging its technology and partnerships to make significant strides in reducing food waste and increasing food access,” said Ivy Maingi, General Manager of Glovo Uganda. “We believe food security is a fundamental human right, and through our initiatives, we aim to make a real impact.”

The Glovo Access initiative provides free logistics services for NGOs and community-based organizations, facilitating the delivery of meals to underserved communities.

This initiative not only helps alleviate hunger but also promotes a more equitable society by ensuring that even the most vulnerable populations have access to nutritious food.

“This year’s theme, ‘Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future,’ emphasizes our commitment to finding long-term solutions to food insecurity. Our focus is not just on delivering meals today but on building a healthier, more equitable future for all Ugandans,” added Maingi.

Glovo Access Uganda has also expanded its partnership with Haba na Haba Food Bank, rescuing surplus food from 18 routes to reach more underserved areas. The company aims to deliver over 800,000 meals by the end of 2024, solidifying its role as a key player in the fight against hunger in Uganda.

“Glovo Access’s expansion into more regions demonstrates our dedication to bridging the food accessibility gap in Uganda,” said Daphne Kabereri, Impact and Sustainability Lead for Africa. “Our innovative delivery solutions ensure that those most in need receive support.”

Across Sub-Saharan Africa, Glovo has already delivered 900,000 meals, with the goal of surpassing 1.2 million by the end of 2024. As Glovo Uganda continues to grow its social initiatives, the company remains committed to collaborating with local partners and NGOs to maximize its impact on food security in the region.
